A Note from Dr. Doriani:

We have seen how the Bible encourages generosity to the poor and the truly needy – those who are poor due to forces beyond their control. I hope we can go deeper into our long commitment to strategic giving to the poor and needy, in our city and to works abroad. As you ponder your giving, please consider these opportunities to add to the ways we give to worthy causes that are already part of the mission of Central.

Direct Gifts To The Poor
Overseas, we can support more orphans, as well as the children of indigenous missionaries. $40 per month ($480 per year) covers schooling, food  and clothes in the Manipur Covenant Children’s Home in India. In Kenya, $40 per month ($480 per year) provides uniforms, meals and education at the George Kendagor Elementary School. We could support 50 more children ($24,000 annually).

Locally, these groups could enhance their ministries if we could add:

  • $10,000 to Engage St. Louis, which ministers to refugees in the city
  • $5,000 to Counseling Ministry to Single Moms
  • $10,000 to First Step Back Housing, meals, etc., to the homeless in St. Charles
  • $10,000 to our Deacons’ Fund
  • $1,500 to Prison Ministry for Bibles, literature and ministry-related materials.

Capital Gifts To Works for the Poor
We would like to contribute $20,000 to build a dormitory in India for Covenant Children’s Home. And $20,000 builds new classroom and dorm space at Faith Bible College and George Kendagor Elementary School in Kenya. Any gift toward construction of a new Micah House in Honduras, creating housing for the boys, a technical school and more staffing is welcome.

These are all causes we already support to some degree. Any additional gifts enhance our support for them.

You may write a check noting your desire to give to the poor in general or to one of these causes in particular.
