Winter Classes

Nursery, Early Childhood & Elementary

The nursery is available for children 8 weeks up to 2 years old, and is open from 6:30-7:30pm on the first floor of the Early Childhood wing.

Kids 3 years through 1st grade will continue using a great curriculum by Discipleland called Amazing New Testament Heroes. Each lesson comes with fun games, cool crafts, and great Bible teaching. The 3 year-olds through 1st grade will meet on the second floor of the Early Childhood wing - in the Elephant (3 and 4 year olds) and Koala rooms (K-1st grade).

Elementary kids (grades 2-5) will dive into a new series called What is a Christian? Phil Vischer, Founder of Jellyfish Labs and co-creator of the acclaimed VeggieTales, will walk us through the entire book of 1 John to answer the question, "What is a Christian?" It will tie in perfectly the sermon series on 1 John that Clay began in January. What is a Christian? packs tons of good theology into short sessions that include a short video and small group discussion. Learn not only what the Bible says, but also why and what it means for us today. Grades 2-5 meet in the Duplex - the building just south of the parking garage and with the bright red door.

Junior High | Student Center

Junior high students meet in the Student Center from 6:30-7:30pm for games and teaching.

Senior High |

While our High schoolers meet on Sunday nights in the Student Center from 6:30-8:00pm, we hope to see your high schooler on Wednesday nights, too! After dinner and during the last hour, please encourage your high schooler to participate in one of the following:

1. Attend an adult class with Matt Woodson. Matt will meet up with any high schoolers who are interested in attending a class in the hallway outside the Fellowship Hall at 6:25pm.

2. Help with KidCentral programming. If your high school student is interested in serving in the elementary classes, tell him/her to head over to the Duplex building at 6:25pm. Mrs. Brown will meet them there and give instructions. We'd love their help with crafts, games, and small groups. The Duplex is the building just south of the parking garage - with the bright red door.

3. Help clean/straighten the Fellowship Hall and stage. We'd love some workers who are willing to clear tables, return high-chairs to the nursery, and straighten/clean the stage area after dinner. After they've finished, they are welcome to use the Fellowship Hall space for homework.

4. Help with Middle School programming. Head over to the Student Center at 6:25pm if your high schooler is willing to serve our middle schoolers by helping with the games, cleaning up after large group activities, etc.

Adults

Knowing God (February 6 - March 13)
Pastor Ben Tzeng | Gathering Place

Who is God? How can knowing the attributes of God affect our daily lives in practical ways? This class will discuss these questions in an interactive way to explore how to develop a growing relationship with God. We invite anyone from different backgrounds and understandings who wants to grow spiritually.

Befriend (March 20 - May 1)
Pastor Mike Farley | Gathering Place

Is real friendship too risky? We live in a world where real friendship is hard to find. Suspicious of others and insecure about ourselves, it can be easy to retreat to the safety of our small, self-made digital worlds. But Jesus models and makes possible a much richer vision of friendship. Using a video series by pastor Scott Sauls based on his book Befriend, this class will employ interactive, group discussion to explore how to trust Christ in order to love in bold ways and discover the joys of being a good friend.

The Art of Parenting
Karl and Karen Pollack; Austin and Sue Winkleman; Killeen Counseling | Parlor

How can we be godlier parents who shepherd our children's hearts and habits toward God in the midst of the challenges of daily life? This class seeks to answer that question in two parts. In the first 8 weeks, the class will watch a video series based on the book The Art of Parenting by Dennis and Barbara Rainey. Central members Karl and Karen Pollack and Austin and Sue Winkleman will lead an interactive group discussion based on the videos to explore practical ways to help our children develop a Christ-centered identity, character, relationships, and mission. The final four weeks will be led by three Christian counselors from Killeen Counseling who have extensive experience working with children and parents. They will lead discussions about the struggles and challenges children face at various stages of growth and development and how Christian parents can love their children in healthy, healing ways.
