About the Event

High School

June 12-18, Central's high school students (rising 9th graders through graduating seniors) will have an opportunity to learn first-hand what it means to love and serve your neighbor when we travel to Joplin, MO to take part in the "Joplin Promise Summer Service Camp."

From the Joplin Promise website:

The most devastating EF-5 tornado to strike the United States in fifty years destroyed one third of the City of Joplin in 2011. In its wake, New Creation Church leapt into action housing nearly 10,000 volunteers and launching thousands of relief and recovery missions. As the relief effort came to an end, not only did the church have showers, bunk rooms, and sheds full of tools, but a wealth of experience in helping others.

As we prayed over Joplin, it was clear that our needs went far beyond the tornado. With thousands in our neighborhoods living in poverty and a significant number of social concerns the Lord directed us to start Summer Service Camps that would engage youth from all over the nation. Our goals are three-fold...

#1 - Instruct youth in the Biblical response to combatting poverty
#2 - Engage youth in meaningful, hands-on construction projects that help homeowners in need of assistance
#3 - Guide youth in mentoring children struggling from the effects of poverty through a day camp experience

Today, our Summer Service Camps are just one aspect of ministry that The Joplin Promise offers. We also have a large outreach to children and youth in our community as well as significant number of participants in our recovery ministries.
