What is Next Chapter?
Next Chapter is a ministry of Central Presbyterian Church that offers a 14-week support group for people walking through the grief of separation and divorce.
Who should attend?
People experiencing the pain and disruption of separation and divorce who are looking for support and a safe place to share their experience while addressing the particular issues that arise during the divorce process.
What is the typical make-up of a group?
Groups are typically comprised of 6-10 men and women in various stages of separation and divorce.
Who leads the groups?
The support groups are led by male and female facilitators who have personally experienced the pain of divorce, walked a path of recovery, and have been trained to lead small groups.
What resources does the program use?
Our curriculum is based on three texts that discuss the impact and changes that occur because of separation and divorce from a Christian framework:
- Recovery from Divorce by Bob Burns
- The Fresh Start Divorce Recovery Workbook by Bob Burns & Tom Whiteman
- The Complete Divorce Recovery Handbook by John Splinter
What topics are covered?
The materials used in Next Chapter address such topics as:
- Understanding the grief cycle and its impact
- Confronting and handling feelings of guilt, fear, and anger
- Relating to your ex-spouse
- Responding to your children
- The separation and reconciliation struggle
- Reentry into the single life
- Biblical insights on divorce
- Learning to forgive
Where are the support groups held?
Support groups meet in the comfort of one of the facilitator’s home.
How long are the support groups?
Support groups meet for 14 consecutive weeks for approximately 2.5 hours per session.
How much does the support group cost?
The cost is $75.
How do you register for the next group?
Fill out the registration form included in the Next Chapter brochure and send in a check made out to Central Presbyterian Church for $25 to reserve your place in the next group. The remaining balance can be paid off over the course of the group.
