Winter Classes

Nursery, Early Childhood & Elementary

The nursery is available for children 8 weeks up to 2 years old, and is open from 6:30-7:30pm on the first floor of the Early Childhood wing.

Kids 3 years through 1st grade will continue using a great curriculum by Disciplined called Amazing New Testament Heroes. Each lesson comes with fun games, cool crafts, and great Bible teaching. The 3 year-olds through 1st grade will meet on the second floor of the Early Childhood wing - in the Elephant (3 and 4 year olds) and Koala rooms (K-1st grade).

Elementary kids (grades 2-5) will dive into a new series called What is a Christian? Phil Vischer, Founder of Jellyfish Labs and co-creator of the acclaimed VeggieTales, will walk us through the entire book of 1 John to answer the question, "What is a Christian?" It will tie in perfectly the sermon series on 1 John that Clay began in January. What is a Christian? packs tons of good theology into short sessions that include a short video and small group discussion. Learn not only what the Bible says, but also why and what it means for us today. Grades 2-5 meet in the Duplex - the building just south of the parking garage and with the bright red door.

Junior High | Student Center

Junior high students meet in the Student Center from 6:30-7:30pm for games and teaching.

Senior High |

While our High schoolers meet on Sunday nights in the Student Center from 6:30-8:00pm, we hope to see your high schooler on Wednesday nights, too! After dinner and during the lass hour, please encourage your high schooler to participate in one of the following:

1. Attend an adult class with Matt Woodson. Matt will meet up with any high schoolers who are interested in attending a class in the hallway outside the Fellowship Hall at 6:25pm.

2. Help with KidCentral programming. If your high school student is interested in serving in the elementary classes, tell him/her to head over to the Duplex building at 6:25pm. Mrs. Brown will meet them there and give instructions. We'd love their help with crafts, games, and small groups. The Duplex is the building just south of the parking garage - with the bright red door.

3. Help clean/straighten the Fellowship Hall and stage. We'd love some workers who are willing to clear tables, return high-chairs to the nursery, and straighten/clean the stage area after dinner. After they've finished, they are welcome to use the Fellowship Hall space for homework.

4. Help with Middle School programming. Head over to the Student Center at 6:25pm if your high schooler is willing to serve our middle schoolers by helping with the games, cleaning up after large group activities, etc.

Adults

myCentral Training | Parlor | January 10 and 17
Tim Page & Jeff Brown

myCentral is an online community and central location for all things at Central. It connects people, organizes ministry teams, creates calendars, and improves communication and collaboration. myCentral will help you stay connected with your church family, keep up-to-date with upcoming events, find ministry groups and service opportunities, register for events, and much more.

For the first two weeks of EquipCentral, January 10 and 17, we will be offering and introduction to this powerful new resource. During week 1, we will help you get oriented to the software, show you how to set up your profile, and learn about some of the great features. You are encouraged to bring your laptop or tablet to make this a hands-on learning experience. In week 2, we will go a bit deeper and introduce you to the many ways our members and ministries will benefit from the groups feature of myCentral.

Being a Missionary Church in a Secular Age
Mike Farley & Clay Smith | Parlor

In the United States, many claim to be “spiritual but not religious” and view the institutional church with growing indifference or suspicion, and strident challenges to religious belief are increasingly common at all levels of culture. How did our age become secular, and how can the church fulfill its mission to proclaim and live the good news of Jesus Christ for the good of all? This class will explore answers to these questions by examining ways that Christ offers our skeptical culture a compelling foundation for truth and goodness and offers our polarized, broken culture a healing community and way of life grounded in the grace of God.

Conversational Apologetics: How to Give Reasons for Your Faith in Dialogue
Jeremy Smith, Faith Ascent Ministries | Gathering Place

This course will help you gain an understanding of some common objections to the Christian faith and how to have a productive dialogue about them. The course provides instruction about evidence and reasoning that supports the Christian faith through lectures and class discussions of some short reading assignments. Class sessions will also feature opportunities to practice methods for engaging respectfully and effectively in conversation with people who are curious and skeptical about Christianity. Due to the highly interactive nature of this training, attendance will be limited to 20 participants.
