Easter 2016

Thursday, 3/24/16 at 12:00am

About the Event

Regardless of our backgrounds or current life circumstances, we all are drawn to stories of hope, joy, and redemption. We love when good - perhaps even unexpectedly - triumphs over evil. This Easter, we invite you to celebrate with us the ultimate story of freedom and new beginnings.

Central will once again celebrate Christ’s resurrection from the dead and his victory over sin this Easter. Whether you enjoy the beauty and majesty of Forest Park's historic World's Fair Pavilion at sunrise or the tradition of Easter in Central's sanctuary, we encourage you to invite your family, friends, and neighbors to join you and hear the gospel proclaimed.

The Resurrection

At Easter we celebrate the fulfillment of the gospel on the cross and at the empty tomb. But there's one event that separates those two—the resurrection. Watch this beautiful, original video to learn how the resurrection gives the cross and the tomb meaning

Easter Week Details

Holy Thursday | 7pm

Sometimes called "maundy" (meaning commandment), Holy Thursday honors the day Jesus celebrated the Passover with his disciples at the Last Supper. In the context of Holy Week, it refers to the commandment Jesus gave to his disciples while washing their feet:

"A new commandment I give to you, that you love one another: just as I have loved you, you also are to love one another. By this all people will know that you are my disciples, if you have love for one another."

- John 13:34-35

Order of Worship for Holy Thursday.

Good Friday | 7pm

The Good Friday service is a "tenebrae" service. Tenebrae means "darkness" or "shadows", and focuses our attentions on Christ's sufferings. Readings trace the story of Christ's passion, and are designed to remind us of the solemnity and weight of our Savior's sacrifice for us.
