About the Event

Discussion GroupsSummer

Do you think that following Jesus in the modern world is often confusing and hard? Come join Central Conversations to talk about important issues related to Christian faith. Prior to each discussion, participants should listen to an interview or talk by a Christian author on the topic of that conversation using the links provided below. We will meet online via Microsoft Teams video call to discuss it together; please email Pastor Mike Farley (mfarley@centralpres.com) for the Teams video link. (Teams works just like Zoom. If you don’t have the Teams application, the link will open in a web browser.) We look forward to great dialogue as we help each other understand and apply our faith more deeply to all of life.

Patrick Miller and Keith Simon, “Joyful Outsiders: Six Ways to Live Like Jesus in a Disorienting Culture”

Part 1 (Patrick Miller): Living in the Tension of Resistance and Cultivation of Culture

Part 2 (Keith Simon): Engaging Culture While Being Rooted in Christ
Two pastors at The Crossing Presbyterian church (EPC) in Columbia, Missouri discuss their new book, Joyful Outsiders: Six Ways to Live Like Jesus in a Disorienting Culture. The authors show how belonging to the kingdom of God in Christ makes us a kind of outsider to every human society, always living in tension with aspects of culture that need God’s redemption and reform. This discussion outlines six different, complementary roles or approaches by which Christians can participate in God’s redeeming work within our culture.
